About General ENGLISH Course

The General English program provides development in the skills of speaking, listening, reading, writing and the different language areas of grammar, vocabulary, and functional English.

This course provides students with either an Intensive or Semi-Intensive English development program. All lessons and the number of sessions are organized to respond directly to individual students’ needs. The focus is on real-world English, taught with a practical, communicative approach supplemented with activities from real-life environments and contexts.

Requirements

Beginner

  • What you will learn:

    • how to introduce yourself, greet others, share personal information, ask for things, and make conversations with others
    • the use of basic vocabulary
    • useful basic grammar, including the present and past simple, prepositions, possessive adjectives, and making simple sentences
    • how to pronounce words clearly
    • how to use the alphabet and its sounds
    • how to spell common words

Elementary

  • What you will learn:

    • how to speak about experiences, events, hopes, and ambitions
    • how to describe things and people using adjectives
    • how to communicate in simple and routine situations
    • how to recognize and express feelings and attitudes
    • useful grammar, including the present and past simple, prepositions, possessive adjectives and making simple sentences
    • useful vocabulary items
    • how to complete a form and write a letter
    • how to pronounce the words and sentences clearly

Pre-intermediate

  • What you will learn:

    • how to use practical English – in airports, hotels, restaurants, and at the doctor’s
    • how to develop your conversational skills
    • how to use grammar structures such as different tenses, conditionals, etc.
    • how to construct simple and complex sentences using conjunctions
    • useful vocabulary items, collocations, and phrasal verbs
    • how to use a dictionary to find meanings, definitions, part of speech and pronunciation of words
    • fundamental listening, reading, and writing skills
    • word and sentence pronunciation

Intermediate

  • What you will learn:

    • how to understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in your field of specialization
    • how to maintain conversations on a variety of familiar topics comfortably
    • how to interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity
    • how to use existing knowledge of grammar and word order to work out meaning and confirm understanding
    • useful vocabulary items, collocations, phrasal verbs, and expressions
    • how to write clear, detailed essays and explain a viewpoint
    • how to improve your reading and listening skills

Upper-intermediate

  • What you will learn:

    • how to use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes
    • a wide range of demanding, longer clauses, and recognize implicit meaning
    • how to express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions
    • how to produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
    • communicate fluently, naturally, spontaneously and beyond your immediate survival needs
    • take part in more formal interactions
    • develop an increasing understanding of a range of vocabulary, using knowledge of word structure, related words, word roots and borrowings.

Advanced

  • What you will learn:

    • express yourself spontaneously, very fluently, and precisely, in the most complex situations.
    • discuss issues related to science and technology
    • use a variety of techniques for promoting creativity in your speech and writing.
    • discuss and debate current issues at length
    • use different strategies to do reading and listening tasks for examinations and tests
    • give professional presentations
    • prepare reports, write articles and essays as well as effective formal e-mails
